InceptionU awards two educational bursaries

It’s always a special day when we award educational bursaries to two amazing learners who have displayed the key attributes we value at InceptionU - the ability to understand anything, build something and change everything.

During Cohort 11, two learners exemplified these values not only in their class work, but also in their ability to work collaboratively in teams, deliver high-quality work in a professional environment and generously share their knowledge with others in the Cohort.

We are so proud of Sally Do and Duncan Findlay, who completed the Evolve Full Stack Developer program in March. They were each presented with a $2,000 educational bursary to help offset the cost of the program. Each of them self-funded and did not receive any government funding towards their education.

InceptionU Tech Facilitator and bursary lead Shane Fast presented both with their certificates at a ceremony at InceptionU.

“I can’t pick just one thing about these learners. Their grit, their humour, their willingness to give it everything they’ve got. And, it’s no surprise that they’re both employed now,” says Shane.

Sally says she wanted to give her very best during the program and is honored to be a recipient.

“I’m really happy to be recognized and that people noticed the quality of the work that I’ve done,” says Sally. “I wanted to do well, but also help everybody else in the cohort succeed and win.”

Sally is now working as a developer with Garden Loft, helping the company build an app that will help senior citizens in the Garden Loft community be more active, engaged and fulfilled. Garden Loft constructs pre-fabricated backyard suites that keep aging parents close and connected to family.

Duncan Findlay says, “ It’s a growth opportunity for me and it’s nice to be recognized in this public way. I didn’t even know the bursary existed so I’m happy and really appreciate being recognized.”

Duncan worked with Collegium, a real estate development platform, as part of his Project #3 and was hired by the company to continue building their MVP.

The InceptionU bursary is a self-sustaining fund that provides financial assistance to self-funded learners. Our goal is to make quality education accessible to all, regardless of their financial circumstances.
